Relationship Garden is an iPhone app for keeping in touch. Each person is a plant. Reaching out waters the plant, and the app reminds you who is due.

Getting started

Tap + to add a person. Choose them from your contacts or type a name, then pick a plant. The plant sets how often you want to be in touch, from an orchid (every day) to a redwood (once a year).

Watering a plant

Press and hold a pot to water it, or open the person’s page and tap Water. Choose how you connected and add a note for next time. A call, a visit, a letter or a long text conversation is a full watering. A quick text or a voicemail keeps the plant from drying out for one day.

Who needs water

The button at the bottom of the garden lists everyone who is due, most overdue first. People outside their call hours are listed separately.

Reminders are not arriving

Open iOS Settings, then Notifications, then Relationship Garden, and turn on Allow Notifications. In the app, tap the gear icon to choose the time of the daily reminder.

Birthdays and anniversaries

Open a person’s page, tap Notes for care, and use Add a date. Each date can remind you a month before, a week before, the day before and on the day.

Changing a plant or a name

On a person’s page, tap Change plant to choose a different plant. Tap the name to rename or set a nickname. The plant keeps its growth and its history.

Taking a break

In Notes for care, use Rest to pause a plant. A resting plant does not dry out.

Home screen widget

Press and hold the home screen, tap the + or Edit button, and search for Relationship Garden.
